主题:“Knowledge as attentiveness in practice

主讲人:Bengt Molander教授(挪威科技大学哲学和宗教系)

时间:410日下午3:00

地点:闵行人文学院楼5303会议室

AbstractI will present an epistemological framework for understanding the notion of knowledge in the context of knowing-in-action, which covers “knowing how” and “tacit knowing”. One essential feature is that knowing is interpreted as attentiveness in action/practice. Another is that knowledge guides or leads people “successfully” in a practice, which ultimately means “towards the best” (for mankind). I will also argue that this notion of knowledge is more basic than knowledge that is expressed in words. I will build on ideas by, among others, William James and Ludwig Wittgenstein.

主题:“Experience-based knowledge and scientific knowledge”

主讲人:Bengt Molander教授(挪威科技大学哲学和宗教系)

时间:416日下午300

地点:闵行人文学院楼2102会议室

AbstractThere is in many countries a movement that tries to “make as much knowledge as scientific as possible”. This means that much experience-based knowledge in crafts, professions, and in everyday life, is (or will be) considered as not being sufficiently good, or perhaps not as knowledge at all. I will argue that many kinds of experience-based knowing-in-practice (knowing how, practical knowledge, tacit knowledge) are impossible to “make scientific” or replace by scientific knowledge. Moreover, I will argue that scientific knowledge itself should be understood within the framework of practical knowledge traditions.
