附:Dr. McBride演讲提纲

As FISP prepares for the next World Congress of Philosophy, an event that takes place every five years and that will be held this coming August in Athens, Dr McBride thinks that it is important to celebrate philosophy’s role as a public discourse in a world that can benefit greatly from it. In the first half of his talk Dr McBride will consider obstacles to the realization of this role, first, from within philosophy itself (philosophers with a very narrow view of what philosophy is and can be), and second, from “outside” philosophy (notably anti-intellectualist currents and ideological attacks based on the pursuits of profit-maximization and/or consumerism). In the second half of his talk he will explore the contemporary phenomenon of the “One World” that we are increasingly becoming, with a view to opening up the prospect of a public philosophical discourse that, while not neglecting the special features and problems of individual nations and cultures, nevertheless aspires to a global relevance for which it is uniquely suited.
