Mark J. McDonnell，澳大利亚墨尔本大学生物科学学院教授，牛津大学出版社发行的《Journal of Urban Ecology》杂志主编。长期从事城市生态学与生态系统方面的研究，尤其在景观生态学和城市生态系统的结构和功能，城市生物多样性保护和管理方面取得了卓越成果。曾主持和参与完成20多项重大科研项目，总金额超1000万美元；编撰英文书籍23部，在Science，Annual Review of Ecology, Evolution and Systematics等国际顶级期刊上发表文章100余篇，Google Scholar论文总引用率达到7982次，h因子高达48。近十年他还担任Nature, Science, Ecology等顶级期刊的长期审稿人，以及7个国际期刊的编委。鉴于在科研上的杰出贡献，McDonnell教授还曾获得澳大利亚景观建筑师学会维多利亚奖章（AILA Victoria Medal for Landscape Architecture），当选美国植物园团体成员，获得纽约公园和娱乐部认证证书等。
The rapid development and growth of cities and villages around the globe are having a significant impact on local and global biodiversity. Urban landscapes create environmental conditions that can exert considerable pressure on organisms, and often under accelerated timeframes compared to more natural environments, that limit the ability of organisms to persist. I will present a synthesis of the complex issues surrounding the persistence of green space in Asian cities and its role in the preservation, restoration and management of biodiversity. I will also provide some practical guidelines for how biodiversity can be effectively managed in different contexts to create more sustainable and resilient Asian cities in the future.
