报告人简介:
Irina Novikova is Professor of Physics at the College of William & Mary. She earned her undergraduate Diploma in physics from the Moscow State Engineering-Physics Institute in 1998. She completed her Ph.D. in 2003 in experimental Atomic and Molecular Optics at Texas A&M University under the supervision of Prof. George R. Welch. After spending three years as a postdoctoral fellow at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, she joined the physics faculty at the College of William & Mary. Irina’s research is focused on the investigation of coherent light–atom interactions and their applications for quantum optics, precision metrology, and telecommunications. In particular, she studies coherent interaction of light with atoms to control and manipulate optical properties of atomic ensembles, such as Electromagnetically Induced Transparency (EIT), slow and stored light, resonant Raman processes, etc.
报告内容简介:
Recent advances in coherent and quantum control over light-atom interactions increased the interest in development of quantum-enhanced and quantum-enabled sensing. Quantum fluctuations of optical fields can be a valuable quantum resource or unwanted limitation. Nonlinear interactions of light with near-resonant atoms are particularly attractive for their manipulation and control. For example, one can increase the sensitivity of weak absorption measurements using quadrature or two-mode squeezed light. On the other hand, camera-based quantum noise imaging enables us to measure optical properties of light-sensitive objects with minimal light exposure, as we demonstrate using both squeezed vacuum and thermal vacuum.
