Lin's research focus on quantum information with Rydberg atoms. In 2010, Lin finished his undergraduate study at Nankai University and started his Ph.D. with Prof. Alex Kuzmich at Georgia Institute of Technology, working on long-lived quantum memory and quantum optics with strongly interacting Rydberg atoms. After moved to University of Michigan in 2014, Lin built a new experiment single-handedly and investigated UV single-photon Rydberg excitations. In 2017, Lin joined Prof. Gerhard Rempe's group at Max-Planck-Institute of Quantum Optics as a postdoc and worked on the realization of Schrödinger's cat state with single atom in the optical cavity. In Sep. 2018, Lin joined Huazhong University of Science and Technology asa professor and is currently setting up Rydberg-atom-based quantum optics and quantum computing experiments.

Manipulation of light at the single quanta level is an essential goal in quantum optics, due to its importance for quantum networks, quantum computing and testing of fundamental quantum mechanics. However, performing such quantum operations on photons in an efficient way turns out to be extremely hard, as photons usually don’t interact with each other. Ensembles of high-lying Rydberg atoms feature strong, controllable and long-range interactions and excellent matter-light quantum interface, opening the door to deterministic photonic quantum operations. In this talk, I will present our recent results in using Rydberg atomic ensembles for the generation of non-classical photonic states. We demonstrate the on-demand generation of Rydberg single photons with near-unity purity and indistinguishability and high fidelity linear optical quantum logic gate using these photons.
