报告摘要：
This talk will examine the use of mobile LiDAR and its point clouds for autonomous driving and urban digital twin applications. This talk consists of two parts. The first part will present the state-of-the-art LiDAR mobile mapping technology and its applications. The focus of the second part will be placed on 3D point cloud analytics with deep learning （in particular, Transformer for 3D vision tasks. How do Transformers cope with the irregularity and unordered nature of point clouds? How suitable are Transformers for different 3D representations (e.g., point- or voxel-based)? How competent are Transformers for various 3D point cloud processing tasks? This talk will address those questions and present a comprehensive overview of Transformers for point cloud classification, segmentation, and object detection. Three potential research directions for the development of 3D Transformers in LiDAR point cloud processing are provided.

Prof. Dr. Jonathan Li is a professor of geomatics and systems design engineering at the University of Waterloo, Canada. His main research interests include geospatial mapping with earth observation images and mobile LiDAR mobile point clouds, machine learning for intelligent processing of images and point clouds, and their novel applications in urban digital twins and autonomous vehicles. He has co-authored over 600 publications, including more than 150 papers published in top journals (RSE, ISPRS-JPRS, TITS, TGRS, JAG) and more than 120 papers in flagship conferences (CVPR, IJCAI, AAAI, IGRASS, ISPRS). His publications have received over 16,200 Google citations with a h-index of 68. He has supervised nearly 200 MSc/PhD students and postdoc fellows/visiting scholars to completion. He is a Fellow of IEEE, Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Elsevier Journal of JAG, Associate Editor of IEEE-TGRS, and IEEE-TITS. He is a recipient of over 20 prestigious awards.
